Finally, our home...

Welcome to my favorite season of the year, Fall!  Love tall boots, sweaters & sweatshirts (and sweat PANTS!), and everything pumpkin.  The news of the month is that classes are changing a bit and moving to our studio in the lower level of our home.  This is an exciting change for me because we can expand our conditioning opportunities - maybe not more space, but definitely more equipment and flexibility on times.  Classes are now considered "small group trainings" and are currently FULL, thanks to all my "regulars".  I anticipate new muscles popping out for the holidays!  Go us!

If you are interested in attending one of these small group trainings, please send me an email and we will discuss the schedule and a waitlist.

I'm also committing to some blog posts regarding health as well as fitness.  As many of you know, I've struggled with my thyroid for many years.  My younger sister also was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as an adult- a very difficult and frustrating struggle.  We spent time in Europe this summer and I realized what an impact the food we eat and the water we drink HERE in America have on our health.  I ate bread, butter, cheese, ice cream every single day in Paris- something I'd NEVER be able to do here without a risk of bloating up.  So many differences- their wheat is processed differently.  If you don't eat the bread today, it will be hard as a rock by the evening.  The water has not had all the minerals removed, and things like fluoride added.  We need those minerals, and that fluoride is being proved to destroy our thyroids.  Here I go....so please look for that information to come at you gradually.  I believe we need to find a way to live where we live, but we can do it smartly.  I also believe that many of these health concerns can be resolved through eating better and exercising more effectively.  Note I didn't say MORE....I said effectively.

Stand tall people.  Be superheroes!!!

Lots of changes!!!

Hello!

Thank you all for your support during this first month!  We've had a lot of fun, had some sore muscles, made some new friends and most importantly, introduced a lot of people to Pilates.  If you experienced the Pilates Reformer for the first time, please share with your friends.  All of the classes are appropriate for any fitness level and the Reformer is a fantastic way to launch yourself into an exercise routine that will keep your body safe and free of injury.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We are moving!!!  As of May 1st, 2015, classes will be held at Duvall Performing Arts, right in the heart of downtown Duvall on Main Street.  The address is 15715 Main Street Suite 201- the studio can be accessed through the front of the building (go down the stairs) or in the back.  Also, make sure to check the schedule for changes in the class offerings.

As you may have seen on Facebook, we now have foam rollers!!  If you've had experience with them in the past, you either love them or hate them.  My hope is that you learn to love them for the changes that can be made in your body by using them.  Everything from your shoulders to your feet can benefit from this amazing tool.  Using a foam roller regularly can limit soreness and tightness by increasing flexibility and blood flow.  If you are a runner, rolling should be part of your daily stretching routine, but also can help anyone to avoid sport-related injuries.  Come try them out and see what they can do for you!

Lastly, we've got some family trips coming up- a long-awaited wedding in my hometown in South Dakota at the end of May into the first week of June; and a trip to Europe now that our kids are at an age where they can appreciate the experience.  So to make it up to you, we've got special pricing for the next 3 months:  UNLIMITED CLASSES for May AND June for $60 total, and you receive July FREE.  This is a total of 9 1/2 weeks of classes for only $60.  If you came to class 3 times a week, that would bring the price of a class down to just over two bucks.  Can't beat it!  Sign up today!

Also, Private Reformer sessions are for the month of May and June are 3 for $100, regularly $40 each, for a savings of $20.  Must be used in May and June.

And did I mention that I've got a LIBRARY of workouts at home......a LIBRARY!!!  If you think you will exercise at home, please talk to me and we'll find something for you to "check out" while I'm gone.  Changes are good!  Sometimes mixing up your routine is exactly what your body needs, especially while trying to bust through a plateau!  It's fun!

As always, if you have questions, let me know.  Classes are small, safe and always supportive of your abilities and goals- and the first one is free!

Until next time!  Stand tall and keep moving!!

Welcome to Duvall Pilates!

Welcome to the Studio!  This has been a dream of mine for some time now and once I finally decided "it's time", it felt like a huge relief- it's a blessing that I'm able to share this with my community.  With yoga and Pilates, I believe that you can gain strength, flexibility and healthy mobility that will take you through your life with grace- with some help from loving family and friends, of course.

My hope for this section of the website is to provide you with information of interest as it pertains to fitness, wellness and nutrition.  Obviously, I love fitness because it's what I teach, but I'm equally fascinated by wellness in general as well as nutrition.  Always be your strongest advocate with any health professional and do your own research too.  With nutrition, you just can't go wrong by eating clean.  And then when things just don't feel right, start digging.

My "dig" started about 6 years ago when I was freezing, losing hair, always tired...the list goes on and on.  Most of you will know right away what was going on, but it took me a long time to find the right person that finally diagnosed me with Hashimoto's and hypothyroid. Three different doctors told me I was depressed because my mom had just died.  Yes, I was sad, but I KNEW that wasn't the problem.  I  had surgery to remove half my thyroid- cancer was found in the half they took, so I have ultrasounds every 6 months on the half I still have.  Medication is really difficult to regulate, and it's a constant battle to feel GREAT.  Don't settle for "good" or "in the range", please seek out the person that will help you to feel GREAT and in "optimum range".  Wish me luck finding that person...

There's my wellness and nutrition all in a nutshell.  My thyroid sometimes dictates how things go.  I have a nasty sweet tooth.  I mean nasty.  I wish I could pull that thing out.  And I like coffee.  A lot.  Ohmygosh, a donut and a cup of coffee.  Yeeks!!!  I really have to try hard to make sweets a TREAT, which is what they should be all the time.  Coffee is my love but I don't drink it excessively.  So I figure there are far worse things than that.

Fitness.  I still love to jump around every once in awhile with very loud music.  And if you ever want to do that, you just let me know and we'll have a special workout party.  But I've realized that my body doesn't like it when I do that all the time.  I can get a really great workout with PiYo, Pilates, yoga, or simply stretching and while my muscles might be sore, I'm not injured from overuse.  I love my foam roller.  I really do.  And you should too because it is so very good for you.

Come in and see me, and let's get to know each other.  My hope is that everyone feels at home and welcome in this studio and continues their journey to a life well lived feeling healthy and well.

Thanks for being here!
